A thoughtful and spiritually attuned 16 year old teenage girl began therapy with the hope of improving her relationship with her mum. She loved learning and had a deep awareness of her inner world, yet at home, tension often arose. Her mum felt exhausted by the ongoing conflict and disheartened by the sense that her daughter wasn’t hearing or understanding her.
Their shared goal was to rebuild connection, reduce misunderstandings, and find a gentler way to navigate disagreements.
For six months, we met fortnightly to support both mother and daughter together. These sessions created a safe space for each of them to speak openly, listen deeply, and understand the emotions underlying their clashes. Through guided conversations, reflective listening, and gentle mediation, they learned new ways of communicating their needs and responding to each other with empathy.
Over time, their relationship transformed. Conflicts reduced significantly, and when disagreements did arise, they were able to repair and return to connection much faster. Both mother and daughter began to see each other with new clarity and compassion, allowing their bond to strengthen in meaningful and lasting ways.
